Being Still
November 2, 2018
Kathy Troccoli’s song “I wait” is strumming in my ear as I watch this video for the umpteenth time,

be still and know is oh so far beyond me...”
my mind is stuck on only those words.
As I watch, I noticed something; there is a vast difference when this video is played with sound (music) and when I had watched it in a quiet place in silence.
Being still...
I’m not sure I know how to do that.

Staying motionless for a period of time isn’t something I’m good at.
Even when I'm seated quietly alone – all by my lonesome self – my mind is active, soaring, straying, floating in oh so many directions.
Yet, there’s beauty in that quietness that can only be found by being or becoming still.
Yes, there’s wisdom in knowing how to be still.
On the rear occasions when I accidentally was able to truly become silent, that quietness that leads to stillness, I’ve found it to be beautiful – ethereal even.
I am slowly, so slowly learning that being still really means to be quiet, motionless in thought and action so that I can listen well, for, if you aren’t quiet you can’t hear very well can you?
And when you become still you hear so much that sometimes even the very silence becomes so loud.
Stillness, that quietness, comes with benefits.
One such benefit is peace.
Peace can be found in stillness.

A quiet mind is usually a peaceful mind and a peaceful mind is usually a calm soothing place to be.
When I think of being still the following definition comes to mind:
- Silence - An absence of motion or disturbance
- Stillness - A state of freedom from storm or disturbance (incapacity for or restraint from speaking)
- Quietness - Absence of noise or bustle; calm
So here are some stuff that I’m learning about being still. I have also included quotes that speak about the mouth and about listening for it seems that in learning how to be still one has to also know how to listen and learn when to speak.
Like most people, I listen to songs on YouTube often, maybe too often *lol*, as you will see with my many playlist.
It was there where I first heard Kathy Troccoli’s song so I have also done a playlist for you - titled "Being Still." Ironically though, here I am giving you sound even when I’m speaking about silence (Being Still). You will find the playlist below. Think I need to state here that the playlist consists of mainly Christian songs.
** Note - November 2024 playlists mentioned in the blog above doesn't exist anymore for that channel was deleted. So currently Amocnis does not have any channels on YouTube.
- January 2025 playlist can now be seen. You will find some songs about trusting God also included because "to be still/Being Still" I've found, one must also learn to trust, wait on the right timing and listen to the 'right voice' as well as knowing when to be quiet or even when to speak. Still learning :-)
